It has so happened, many a times, that if someone asks me if I have clothes in bright shades, I simply just open my closet and realise, over and over again, how I am genuinely inclined towards darker shades. My collection of basics in dark colours can last me my whole lifetime. Basics, as a I always emphasize, are the most regular, understated form of style that you can sport. People often tend to misinterpret that as ‘dull’. But, if you have seen the diversity and versatility of a simple white t-shirt, you would know that basics are truly like an empty canvas to a painter- you can paint with whatever colours you may like.
However, if you are someone who puts an effort everyday into deciding their OTTs, spending countless minutes in front of the wardrobe and the mirror, second-guessing your outfit over and again, you will know that it’s as important to know how to style the basics as it is to own them. Even though a black denim and white V-neck is a classic, it depends on your styling prowess if that can be transformed into a head-turning attire.
During winters, what you require is layers over basics. When it is sunny during the day, strip the layering and stick to the basics, and when there’s a nip in the air, you can simply wrap your coat/sweater/blazer and warm yourself up. This is exactly why every fashionista swears by her basics during winter. It is not only fuss-free but makes for a casual-chic look. As I said, your creativity and prowess in sartorial decisions truly reflects in how you style your basics.
With just 4 basic cold-shoulder t-shirts, I will show you how you can style them in 4 different ways, irrespective of the weather. It is only by layering that you can wear the same basic t-shirt multiple times without anyone noticing it.
Look 1: Navy Blue Cold-Shoulder T-shirt with The Classic Denim Skirt
Whoever said that denim skirts are out of fashion was simply blinded by trends. These cute pieces of joy will never run out of fashion. Anything denim is sure to be our favourite! Especially if it’s this cute and versatile!
Look 2: Fluorescent Pink Cold-Shoulder T-shirt With Ethnic Long Skirt
Surprisingly, this turned out to be my favourite look because of the gorgeous pops of colour. Sometimes, it is necessary to break out of the comfort zone and try something you haven’t tried before. Fashion is no different. The long, flowy skirt makes me want to twirl again and again!
Look 3: Grey Cold-Shoulder T-Shirt with Navy Blue Midi Skirt
Midis are the trending length for both skirts and dresses. In this ensemble, I have turned these two basics- the t-shirt and the skirt-into a dress by tying a multi-coloured abstract print scarf around the waist. This is how, by picking up the smallest pieces of clothing from your closet, you can turn something basic and presumably dull to an intriguing ensemble.
Look 4: Charcoal Grey Cold-Shoulder T-shirt With Tights
Considering my bias and inclination for athleisure, this look comes off as no surprise. Their comfort, versatility and sporty-chic look has made me quite the ambassador for this type of dressing. The knitted, well-fitting Charcoal Grey T-shirt can be worn at the gym and outdoors alike.
Without the unparalleled quality and the flattering fit of these t-shirts from Leelan, all four of these potentially amazing looks would have fallen flat on their faces. More than design, it is the quality of the material and the fit that makes the most difference to the garment and the outfit as a whole.
